COMPOUNDING INTEREST IN YOUR BUSINESS

If you got here hoping I'm going to talk finance, you don't need to keep reading. Although since I used to work in finance, I can explain compounding interest in depth, but the gist is that the interest that you earn gets applied back to the principal and you start earning interest on your earnings and so your efforts are well, compounded. (Image below is not an example of compounding interest- just a lovely image representative of multiplying efforts.)

It seems like everyone these days is in such a hurry. They want to get immediate results with very little effort. It might feel counter-intuitive for someone that teaches people how to make money using passive products like print-on-demand or digital products to talk about the work it will take to become really successful, but it's true. I will be the first person to talk about the benefits of passive products so that you can work on what you want when you want with money coming in while you do other things, but there is still work involved.
"The compound effect is the principle of reaping huge rewards from a series of small, smart choices." -Darren Hardy
When I was starting my business, I really wanted to be past the initial stage of building out content. I wanted people to be able to see the full range of my capabilities and products. But fretting over creating everything quickly to appear like a well established business was exhausting. Once I came to terms with the fact that we all start from zero, I just started creating consistent content. Consistent new products. Consistent new social media posts. Consistent blog posts. I wasn't doing too much on any given day. I was just showing up and doing the work.
What I wasn't expecting at the time is the compounding interest that would develop. Slowly people found my products. Other people found my social media. And still others found my blog, website, or email list. I should state that it feels like it all grew at a snails pace for quite a while. Until momentum kicked in. People that were following me in one area started following me in another, and shared some of my content with their friends. If I hadn't just kept going when no one was watching, I would have missed out on this compound effect.

I'm sure you've heard it recommended to just do one small thing each day toward your goals. It is really good advice. And it becomes even more powerful when your efforts start to gain momentum. One day you'll wake up & be so busy you'll wish for the slower days when no one was watching. I know it's hard when you're in the thick of it, wondering when things are going to turn. Remind yourself of your why and just keep moving forward. The people that keep going are the ones that succeed. You got this!
